A 28-year-old man in Northern England has been charged with two counts of modern day slavery connected to the disappearance of two Vietnamese teenage girls.

The two girls, 15-year-old Thi Luong Phan – who calls herself Luong – and Tram Le, 14, went missing from protected care over a week ago.

North Yorkshire Police found the girls safe and well in separate addresses after six days of searching.

The two girls entered the UK illegally several months ago but not much else has been released to media about their background.

In recent years, many young Vietnamese nationals entering the UK have become victims of modern slavery.

UK police have uncovered numerous Vietnamese victims of human trafficking who were lured to the country on the promise of a better life but instead forced to work in illicit trades such as marijuana farms.
