SYDNEY – An Australian student who went missing in North Korea is safe and sound in China, North Korea-focused news site NK News reported, citing unidentified sources.

Alek Sigley, 29, went missing last week, with his family saying they had not heard from the university student in Pyongyang since June 25, when the normally active user of social media abruptly ceased all communication.

“He will travel onwards to Tokyo later in the day,” said NK News, to which Sigley has contributed articles, citing sources familiar with the situation.

With no diplomatic presence in North Korea, Australia has mounted an aggressive search for Sigley through third parties.
