A 4.2-metre great white shark suspected of attacking a surfer while he was surfing in Western Australian has been killed.

The state’s fisheries department said the “white pointer” was trapped and killed in a baited drum line close to where Ben Gerring was attacked on Tuesday afternoon.

The 29-year-old remains in critical condition at the Royal Perth Hospital after he lost a leg above the knee in the attack at Falcon Bay beach in Mandurah.

Authorities have not confirmed if it’s the same shark which mauled Mr Gerring, however, a spokesperson for the WA fisheries department has told the ABC samples and measurements were taken from the white pointer.
