A Sydney mathematics tutor who sexually assaulted children as young as three, has been sentenced to a maximum of 24 years in jail.

Quy Huy Hoang was sentenced in Sydney District Court on Friday for sexual crimes against five young children to whom he gave private mathematics lessons between 2007 and 2014.

The 68-year-old, also known as Peter Hoang, was convicted of five counts of sexual intercourse with a child under 10 and five counts of indecent assault.

The father of three was given a non-parole period of 18 years and counting time served, will not be released until October 2033.

In sentencing, District Court Judge Karen Traill said Hoang used his position of trust in the Vietnamese community and as a teacher to gain access to children for his own “sexual gratification”.

“These children will carry the injuries with them for life,” Judge Traill said.

‘To add insult to injury, the offender took money from (the complainants’ parents) whilst he was sexually assaulting the children.’
