Prague agrees to extradite one of Trinh Xuan Thanh’s alleged kidnappers

Czech authorities have agreed with Berlin to hand over the Vietnamese national who was one of a seven-man squad that allegedly kidnapped former Vietnamese oil tycoon Trinh Xuan Thanh last month.

German media originally reported that Trinh had been kidnapped by armed men in Berlin’s Tiergarten park.

According to German officials, Trinh had been seeking asylum in the European country after the Vietnamese government had issued an international manhunt for him on charges of corruption.

A court in Prague ordered for the extradition of the suspected kidnapper who was identified only as a 46-year-old Vietnamese national.

The Vietnamese government maintains that Trinh was not kidnapped but willingly returned to Vietnam to turn himself into authorities.

Trinh was once the head of Petro Vietnam Construction, a subsidiary of Vietnam’s largest state-run oil companies.

A year ago, he was accused of causing $US148 million worth of losses at the company.f Vietnam’s largest state-run oil companies.
