The Chairman of Vietnam Railways has offered to resign, according to state media reports.
Tran Ngoc Thanh, who was appointed chairman of Vietnam Railways Corporation in 2015, submitted his resignation to the Ministry of Transport with the reason undisclosed.
The ministry has yet to approve Mr Tran’s resignation.
During his three-years working at the corporation, Thanh contributed to revamping railway services by implementing the electronic train ticket system and improving the quality of some service trains.
In February this year, the Transport Ministry said it was considering disciplinary action against Thanh for failing to direct investment research activities according to government policy.
Under his leadership, there were also some controversial projects in the railway sector, such as the purchase of old carriages from China.
