A tourist visiting from Vietnam was left bloodied and bruised after he was assaulted in a traffic incident in Sydney, Nine News reported.

Thien Nguyen told the channel he was driving to a picnic with his girlfriend in Brighton Le Sands when he was approached by a man in a white Mercedes four-wheel-drive on Friday afternoon.

He said while he was waiting for the traffic lights to turn green, he heard his girlfriend saying “sorry, sorry,” before his car door swung open and he received several punches to his face.

“The door got opened and I came out of the car and he started hitting me repeatedly,” Mr Nguyen said.

The attack left Mr Nguyen with a bruise under his eye, a bleeding nose and a chipped tooth.

He was taken to St. George’s Hospital for treatment and later discharged.

Nine News reported the driver of the Mercedes four-wheel-drive is known to police. He fled the scene before returning in a second car and leaving again.
