Vietnam has released its formal decree on allowing local punters to wager on international soccer matches, as well as horse and dog-racing. (Photo: Reuters) From late March, Vietnam will legalise betting on horse and greyhound races as well as international soccer matches.
From March 31, citizens will be allowed to place face-to-face bets with stat8e-sanctioned bookmakers.
The minimum bet value is the equivalent of 6 Australian cents, while the daily maximum limit is the equivalent of $57 dollars.
The announcement legalising sports betting was made on Friday and follows a recent decision to allow certain Vietnamese locals into the country’s casinos.
Gambling outside of state-owned lotteries has long been banned in Vietnam.
But it’s believed the latest decisions are an effort to curb widespread black market gambling.
