Vietnamese families are still reeling from the floods in California’s San Jose last month, which displaced 400 families in the city.

About 80 per cent of those displaced from their homes are working class Vietnamese who fear they might not be able to find an affordable house in the high cost Silicon Valley area.

The floods swept through two weeks ago with about 14,000 people evacuated in the emergency.

Last week, Californian billionaire Hoang Kieu last week donated $US5 million ($A6.6 million) to flood relief efforts.

The former refugee who built his fortunes in medical products presented the check to city officials and charities.

San Jose is home to the largest Vietnamese population outside of Vietnam.
