Bribery rates in Vietnam, one of the highest in the world – survey

A report conducted by international anti-graft rights group Transparency International, has found that Vietnam ranks second in the five most corrupt countries by bribery rates.

The 18-month long survey collected data from nearly 22-thousand people across 16 asia pacific countries, about their recent experiences with corruption.

The public opinion poll found 69 percent in India as saying they had to pay a bribe, followed by 65 percent in Vietnam.

China was much lower at 26 percent, and Pakistan sat at 40 per cent.

Japan had the lowest incidence of bribery, at 0.2 percent, while South Korea also fared well at a mere 3 percent.

Of the 16 countries surveyed, people in Vietnam were the most negative about the situation in their country.

About 60 percent felt their government was doing a poor job of combatting corruption.
