(Photo: Reuters) Vietnamese authorities together with Youtube and Facebook have reportedly removed three-thousand clips and over 600 accounts deemed inappropriate or slanderous toward Vietnamese individuals and organisations.
According to state media, the development was announced in a meeting last week by Nguyen Thanh Lam, the director of the Agency of Broadcasting and Electronic Information under the Ministry of Information and Communications.
State media cited Mr Nguyen as saying that Facebook, YouTube and Google make up for 60 to 70 per cent of advertising revenue in Vietnam, while online newspapers and news websites share the small remainder.
Back in March, Vietnam called on all companies operating in the country to pull its ads from Youtube and Facebook, until the social media giants halted their publication of so-called ‘toxic’ anti-government content.
