The Thua-Thien-Hue province in Vietnam’s north central coast region has proposed a casino complex as part of the Lang Go Laguna resort’s development.

On Tuesday, state media reported that the province authorities had lodged the proposal to the central government asking for permission to build the casino.

The proposal also asks for permission to increase the beach resort’s investment capital to $US2 billion.

The resort first opened in 2013 with a 229 room hotel, 57 villas and an 18 hole golf course.

If approved, the new casino could be part of the government’s three year test allowing locals to gamble in a select few of Vietnam’s casinos under strict requirements.

Before the new trial came into effect in March this year, Vietnam previously banned locals from gambling in its casinos, reserving them strictly to those with foreign passports.
