A monument to the lives of those who have died from drug overdoses has been approved by the Yarra City Council.
The council plans to install the memorial around Victoria Street in North Richmond as part of an upgrade Lennox and Victoria street – a hot spot for drug deals in Melbourne.
The Yarra City Council is now calling for public feedback on the plan.
Councillor Amanda Stone said the memorial was part of a wider package to improve the notorious street corner.
She told ABC that the council still supported a trial for safe injecting rooms.
Victorian Premier Daniel Andrew still remains opposed to the idea of the injecting room, despite approval from a former Supreme Court judge, and several senior law enforcement officials.
