The 37-year-old woman from Binh Thuan province hid the drugs among her clothes, shoes and cosmetic products in her luggage.
It’s suspected that she began a relationship with a Nigerian man through social media and that the man bought her a ticket to Brazil, asking her to help him send so-called gifts to his relatives in Ho Chi Minh City.
An official from Tan Son Nhat’s customs department told Dan Tri newswire that more than 50 people had been caught for drug smuggling at the airport.
The representative also said that most suspects claim that they had been tricked into committing the crime by foreign men.
According to Vietnamese law, those convicted of smuggling over 600 grams of heroine or more than 2.5 kilos of methamphetamine face the death penalty.
