A floodgate at Suoi Vuc Reservoir in Phu Yen Province. (Photo courtesy: VnExpress) Tonnes of harvested crops were wiped away, and close to $17,000 dollars in damages racked up, after three drunken men opened the gates of a reservoir in Vietnam.
At midnight on March 15, around 800 Olympic sized pools worth of water washed through two communes in Phu Yen province.
It’s believed the men snuck into the control station at Suoi Vuc reservoir and pressed the discharge buttons.
Ten farmers who were packing sugarcanes in their field at the time, managed to jump to higher grounds.
Police later identified the three young men who are now under investigation.
