Former Vinashinlines officials to be prosecuted in Vietnam

HANOI – The Supreme People’s Procuracy has decided to prosecute three former officers of the Vinashin Ocean Shipping Company, also known as Vinashinlines, on charges of embezzlement.

State media have named the men as Vinashinlines former director geneneral Tran Van Liem, former chief accountant Tran Van Khuong and former sales manager Giang Kim Dat.

According to the indictment, when buying foreign ships, the three men had conspired with ship owners to rig prices and earn profits.

They indictment said the total amount the trio pocketed from May 2006 to June 2008 was around $US11.7 million.

The trial for the embezzlement case at the Vinashinlines is expected to be held by the end of this year or early next year.
