A Melbourne Uber driver has won an appeal against a $900 fine for operating a commercial passenger vehicle without accreditation, in a case that effectively makes the ride-sharing service legal in Victoria.

Last year, 54-year-old Nathan Brenner was found guilty by the Melbourne Magistrates Court of several charges, including driving a commercial vehicle without a licence.

But today, the former manager of legendary rock groups Split Enz and Men at Work has won his appeal in the Victorian County Court.

The Taxi Services Commissioner has also been ordered to pay Mr Brenner’s appeal cost.
