An Egyptair flight from Paris to Cairo has disappeared from radar with 66 people on board, the airline said.

EgyptAir said in a brief statement that Flight MS804 departed Charles de Gaulle Airport on late Wednesday evening and was due to arrive at Cairo International Airport on early Thursday morning.

It was at nearly 37,000 feet when it disappeared about 10 minutes or 80 miles before it entered Egyptian airspace, Egyptair said.

The Boeing 737-800 aircraft has a total of 56 passengers and 10 crew on board.

The airline said it had no further information.

Egyptian authorities told NBC News that search operations were under way over the Mediterranean Sea.
