Fears are growing as Vietnamese authorities fail to locate a missing British man who went missing last week on Fansipan Mountain, northwest of the country.
22-year-old Aiden Webb, from Norwich, was last seen on Friday when he set off to climb Vietnam’s highest mountain in Sa Pa District of Lao Cai Province.
In a skype interview with the BBC on Monday, Mr Webb’s girlfriend, Bluebell Baughan, said he had fallen and injured his arm and knees while attempting to climb the mountain.
“Before Aiden and I lost contact, he sent me a screen print of his on Google Maps,” said Bluebell. “I was able to provide that to the police who sent their teams to the same area, but they could not find Aiden.”
On Tuesday, authorities said rescue teams had spent Saturday, Sunday and Monday on the mountain looking for Mr Webb. They added that about 60 people including military police, rangers and local people were involved in Monday’s search.
Relatives have now flown to Vietnam to search the area.
His aunt Lisa Shaw launched a social media campaign called ‘Help find Aiden’ in an effort to help find him.
