A 24-year-old Sydney man has been arrested by members of the Joint Counter Terrorism Team for allegedly planning a terrorist attack in Australia.
The man was arrested outside his Bankstown home this morning as part the ongoing Operation Appleby investigation.
A joint media release from the Australian Federal Police and NSW Police said the man had been arrested in connection to documents seized in a raid in December 2014.
“There is no new threat to the community as part of today’s activity,” the statement said.
“It will be alleged in court the man was one of a number of people – who have been previously charged regarding this matter – involved in formulating documents connected with preparations to facilitate, assist or engage a person to undertake a terrorist act.”
He is expected to be charged with one count of conspiracy to conduct an act in preparation for a terrorist act.
The Joint Counter Terrorism team have charged 14 people in relation to Operation Appleby since September 2014.
