Former New South Wales Labor Government minister Eddie Obeid has been found guilty of wilful misconduct.

Mr Obeid, 72, was accused of wilfully committing misconduct in public office by failing to disclose financial interests in Circular Quay cafe leases in 2007.

The NSW Supreme Court jury took one day to deliver their verdict following a three-week trial.

The Crown alleged Mr Obeid was acting in his capacity as a member of parliament when he was approached by tenants to help them with a grievance they had with the maritime authority, and hoped he would act on their behalf.

The disgraced politician had pleaded not guilty but his arguments failed to convince the jury.

The prosecution had said it would push for a jail term for Mr Obeid, who will remain on bail until his sentencing.

Mr Obeid served in the NSW Legislative Council from 1991 to 2011, and was regarded as an influential powerbroker during his parliamentary career.

His membership of the Labor party was terminated in 2013 for bringing the party into disrepute.
