Brazilian officials say they have received calls about possible sightings of an Australian man who went missing in the country 11 days ago.

Tasmanian man Rye Hunt was last seen on May 21 at the Galeao International Airport, Rio, in Brazil.

The Brazilian police hotline which was set up to find the 25-year-old received three tips on Tuesday, the ABC reports.

He is believed to have left the Rio airport after a fight with his travelling companion Mitchell Sheppard.

On Tuesday, it was confirmed that Mr Hunt booked and checked into an apartment at Copacabana later that day.

His partner and uncle are expected to land in the South American city soon to help both Brazilian and Australian authorities as they search for the backpacker.
