Employee robs HCMC electronics store, caught stealing nearly $165,000

Police in Ho Chi Minh City have arrested an employee of an electronics store after he attempted to steal a substantial amount of money from his work.

According to state media, 22-year-old Thanh Van Nguyen who worked at Xanh Electronics Supermarket in Tan Phu District, knew exactly where the money was.

Police allege he snuck into the store at midnight on Monday to steal VND2.75 billion ($A164,350) from a safe but was caught by store security guards when he tried to flee.

Thanh has been charged with “stealing assets”, Tan Phu police say.
