KABUL – Afghan officials say a suicide bomber targeted a minibus carrying court employees on the west of the Afghan capital, Kabul, on Wednesday morning, killing at least 10 people and injuring four.

The attack came on the same day the Taliban announced a new leader to succeed Mullah Akhtar Mansour, who was killed in a U.S. drone strike at the weekend.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid sent an email to the media claiming responsibility for the suicide attack.

“This attack was carried out as revenge for the killing of six innocent prisoners in Kabul,” the statement said. “We will continue on this path”.

Earlier this month, the Afghan government executed six Taliban prisoners convicted of terrorism. The decision by President Ashraf Ghani was taken as part of a tougher policy towards the insurgent movement.

The last major attack in Kabul was on April 19, which killed at least 64 people. The Taliban also claimed that bombing.
