The Queen, who has been on the throne for 64 years, was surrounded by her family at her Windsor Castle residence.
Pop performers Kylie Minogue and Jess Glynne, opera singers Katherine Jenkins and Andrea Bocelli and soul singer Beverley Knight took part in the pageant near London.
Actors including Helen Mirren, John Boyega, Martin Clunes, Damian Lewis, Imelda Staunton and comic Jennifer Saunders also took to the stage, according to British broadcaster ITV which will televise the event.
Further events will take place around her official birthday on June 11, including a street party for 10,000 guests close to Buckingham Palace.
