MUNICH – Local media reports say a man has attacked rail passengers with a knife at a train station in southern Germany, leaving at least four with life-threatening injuries.

The incident happened in Grafing, a town east of Munich, shortly before 5am on Tuesday.

Some witnesses have said the man shouted “Allahu Akbar” (God is Great) during the attack, Bayerischer Rundfunk reported.

German media said police had arrested the perpetrator and that the victims were men.

Germany, which is playing a supporting role in the fight against Islamic State, has not suffered a major attack by Islamist militants to the like of which neighbouring France and Belgium have experienced.
