Bob Katter has announced that he will support a Coalition government in the event of a hung parliament.
The Independent MP from North Queensland told reporters in Brisbane, that he will give his support to Malcolm Turnbull to form government but added that he was doing so with ‘no great enthusiasm’.
Mr Katter said that he maintains his right to withdraw his support at any point.
“We have spoken with the top people in the country and they have advised us that the ALP will not be able to form government. We do not want to go back to the polls, that should not be imposed upon the Australian people,” he said.
“If there is the slightest hint of union bashing, I can assure you, all bets are off”.
The Australian Electoral Commission has the Coalition at 73 seats on the current count, three short of a majority.
Mr Katter’s support means the Coalition needs to win just two of the remaining six yet to be decided.
