SEOUL – Two Vietnamese crewmen on a South Korean fishing vessel in the Indian Ocean have allegedly stabbed and killed the ship’s captain and the engineer over a dispute, South Korea’s coast guard said Monday.

The two, both aged 32, have since been overpowered by other crew members and are locked up aboard the vessel as it sails to the Seychelles capital Victoria, a coast guard official in South Korea’s southern city of Busan said.

According to media reports, the attack against the 43-year-old captain and the 42-year-old engineer – both Korean nationals – took place around 2 am local time on Monday.

Both Vietnamese men were then detained in a cabin on board by other sailors.

The vessel is now being navigated by a 50-year-old South Korean sailor, identified only by his surname Lee, and should reach Seychelles in about four days, Korea Times reported.

The Korea Coast Guard said it is planning to dispatch its officials to the island country for further investigation.
