HAU GIANG – Police in Vietnam’s southern province of Hau Giang say they have arrested a 19-year-old student for allegedly filming several of his classmates taking showers and then blackmailing them for money.

They say Duong Ho Vu, who studies at Can Tho University, was caught on Tuesday while withdrawing VND500,000 from one of the girls he had blackmailed.

According to local media, Vu had demanded – by phone or through social network sites such as Facebook or Zalo – that each of the girls pay him VND5 million, otherwise he would post the videos on the Internet.

He admitted to police that he had secretly recorded the girls bathing naked between mid-March and early April, hiding in the women’s toilet at a national defence education camp and filming them on his mobile phone.

Thanh Nien News reports only one of the victims agreed to pay him money. He was arrested while withdrawing part of that sum.

The incident is still under police investigation.
