Local authorities in the southern province of Long An have captured a large crocodile after it was seen swimming in Soai Rap River in Can Giuoc District two weeks ago, spreading fear among locals.

The reptile, weighing around 70kg, was reportedly found sunbathing near the river which runs between the province and Ho Chi Minh City on Monday morning by locals.

Police were called to the scene and managed to capture the crocodile which was believed to belong to a farm outside Long An.

The crocodile was first seen in the river near the Tan Tap Port on April 18.
