Twins discovered to have different fathers in rare case

A pair of twins have been discovered to have different
fathers after their parents grew suspicious of their different looks, according
to local reports.

The two-year-old children from Vietnam’s northern Hoa Binh
province were allegedly sent for DNA tests after one started growing thick wavy
hair while the other had thin, straight hair.

According to the state-run Tuoi Tre newspaper, the
mother’s 34-year-old father was under pressure from a family member to take a
DNA test because one of the babies looked unusually different from him and the
other child.

Ruling out a possible mix-up in the hospital, the wife
also underwent a DNA test.

The tests done by the Ha Noi Centre for Genetic Analysis
and Technology proved the twins shared the same mother but had different
fathers.

Another rare case of bi-paternal twins was reported in the
United States last year, when a court ruled that a man was only required to pay
child support for one girl in a set of twins after genetic tests showed he was
not the father of both.
